Gucci was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci. In 1938, Gucci expanded and a boutique was opened in Rome. Guccio was responsible for designing many of the company's products. In 1947, Gucci introduced the bamboo handle handbag, which is still a company mainstay. During the 1950s, Gucci also developed the trademark striped webbing, which was derived from the saddle girth, and thesuede moccasin with a metal horsebit.

IT is a label famed for its über sexed-up aesthetic and racy ad campaigns, so the news that Gucci is to begin production on its first children's collection may come as a surprise to some.
Set to be shown in June as part of Pitti Bambini, the new collection has been conceived by Gucci creative director Frida Giannini and will be made in the company's Italian factories.
The collection will be made up of clothing, shoes, accessories, gifts and sunglasses for two age ranges - zero to two years and two to eight years.
